Welcome
Happy New Year! 2008 brings some exciting prospects and challenges for the occupational therapy community. We are one year closer to achieving AOTA’s Centennial Vision which states:
"We envision that occupational therapy is a powerful, widely recognized, science-driven, and evidence-based profession with a globally connected and diverse workforce meeting society's occupational needs."
There are many activities at a national level that are moving the profession toward this vision and we in Wyoming need to do our part to promote and further the profession as well. A great opportunity to do this is to attend the Legislative Pasta Party in Cheyenne on February 19th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Hitching post. Drop me an e-mail and let me know if you can make it. The more the merrier. This is an opportunity to talk to Wyoming Legislators about occupational therapy while enjoying a free dinner. We do not foresee any legislative issues this year but we learned last year that we must always be ready to protect our scope of practice. Our continued presence legislatively will allow us to do this as well as promoting our services through state programs and related to reimbursement issues.
The WyOTA Board continues to be committed to mentor leaders in the state. So far the “New Leaders” that have become involved in WyOTA have been amazing. They have brought fresh new ideas to promote the profession. Some of the people that have moved into leadership positions this year are Janet Pisacka,Vice President, Joey Hadsall, Student Board Member, Stu Kutchel, Alternate Representative to AOTA, Sarah Moore and Nicole Bolinger, 2008 Conference Chairpersons. Currently the Legislative Chairperson position is open. If you are interested contact me and I will provide you with additional information. Keep watching the Website and newsletters for upcoming opportunities.
The WyOTA Library had several new books donated this year. There are many fantastic resources in our library and they are available for check out by members. Check out the list of titles by clicking the link on this page.
If you will be attending the AOTA conference this year in Long Beach let me know and maybe we can set up a Wyoming Lunch or get together.
